Al-Fajr -- The Dawn

وَٱلۡفَجۡرِ
By the dawn
Ayah 1وَلَيَالٍ عَشۡرࣲ
And [by] ten nights
Ayah 2وَٱلشَّفۡعِ وَٱلۡوَتۡرِ
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
Ayah 3وَٱلَّيۡلِ إِذَا يَسۡرِ
And [by] the night when it passes
Ayah 4هَلۡ فِي ذَٰلِكَ قَسَمࣱ لِّذِي حِجۡرٍ
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception
Ayah 5أَلَمۡ تَرَ كَيۡفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِعَادٍ
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad
Ayah 6إِرَمَ ذَاتِ ٱلۡعِمَادِ
[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars
Ayah 7ٱلَّتِي لَمۡ يُخۡلَقۡ مِثۡلُهَا فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
The likes of whom had never been created in the land
Ayah 8وَثَمُودَ ٱلَّذِينَ جَابُواْ ٱلصَّخۡرَ بِٱلۡوَادِ
And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley
Ayah 9وَفِرۡعَوۡنَ ذِي ٱلۡأَوۡتَادِ
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes
Ayah 10ٱلَّذِينَ طَغَوۡاْ فِي ٱلۡبِلَٰدِ
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
Ayah 11فَأَكۡثَرُواْ فِيهَا ٱلۡفَسَادَ
And increased therein the corruption
Ayah 12فَصَبَّ عَلَيۡهِمۡ رَبُّكَ سَوۡطَ عَذَابٍ
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment
Ayah 13إِنَّ رَبَّكَ لَبِٱلۡمِرۡصَادِ
Indeed, your Lord is in observation
Ayah 14فَأَمَّا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ رَبُّهُۥ فَأَكۡرَمَهُۥ وَنَعَّمَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَكۡرَمَنِ
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me
Ayah 15وَأَمَّآ إِذَا مَا ٱبۡتَلَىٰهُ فَقَدَرَ عَلَيۡهِ رِزۡقَهُۥ فَيَقُولُ رَبِّيٓ أَهَٰنَنِ
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me
Ayah 16كَلَّاۖ بَل لَّا تُكۡرِمُونَ ٱلۡيَتِيمَ
No! But you do not honor the orphan
Ayah 17وَلَا تَحَٰٓضُّونَ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلۡمِسۡكِينِ
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor
Ayah 18وَتَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلتُّرَاثَ أَكۡلࣰ ا لَّمࣰّ ا
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether
Ayah 19وَتُحِبُّونَ ٱلۡمَالَ حُبࣰّ ا جَمࣰّ ا
And you love wealth with immense love
Ayah 20كَلَّآۖ إِذَا دُكَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ دَكࣰّ ا دَكࣰّ ا
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed
Ayah 21وَجَآءَ رَبُّكَ وَٱلۡمَلَكُ صَفࣰّ ا صَفࣰّ ا
And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank
Ayah 22وَجِاْيٓءَ يَوۡمَئِذِۭ بِجَهَنَّمَۚ يَوۡمَئِذࣲ يَتَذَكَّرُ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ وَأَنَّىٰ لَهُ ٱلذِّكۡرَىٰ
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance
Ayah 23يَقُولُ يَٰلَيۡتَنِي قَدَّمۡتُ لِحَيَاتِي
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life
Ayah 24فَيَوۡمَئِذࣲ لَّا يُعَذِّبُ عَذَابَهُۥٓ أَحَدࣱ
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment
Ayah 25وَلَا يُوثِقُ وَثَاقَهُۥٓ أَحَدࣱ
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]
Ayah 26يَٰٓأَيَّتُهَا ٱلنَّفۡسُ ٱلۡمُطۡمَئِنَّةُ
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul
Ayah 27ٱرۡجِعِيٓ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكِ رَاضِيَةࣰ مَّرۡضِيَّةࣰ
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him]
Ayah 28فَٱدۡخُلِي فِي عِبَٰدِي
And enter among My [righteous] servants
Ayah 29وَٱدۡخُلِي جَنَّتِي
And enter My Paradise
